R2D2 Lab

R2D2 stands for research, reinvent, design and develop. Through our curriculum, we hope to immerse children in the fields of mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork and communication skills.

We adopt a project-based teaching approach with structured hands-on activities in robotics, computer science, and engineering. We want to inspire children’s curiosity and passion for STEM and nurture them to get that extra edge in today’s rapidly changing landscape.

How is our curriculum different?

STEM is the integration of all the four disciplines to create a product or project. Most of the enrichment courses focus only on one specific area: science, math, coding, programming or robotics. R2D2 Lab is one of the few centres which offer integrated STEM courses in Singapore.

Our founder

Dr. Lin Song has extensive experience in research and development in multi-disciplinary projects over his 14 years career. He has worked on projects like electric vehicles, edible capsule robots, mobile robots, intelligent actuators and much much more! As an inventor of 10 patents and author of 13 scientific papers, he was awarded the prestigious Singapore National Technology Award in 2006.

More encouragingly, most of his patents were purchased by an MNC company later on and the technologies he developed have been licensed to many SMC and MNC companies. One recent R&D results from the team led by him even facilitated a new business category for the company.

Our advisor

John Gu graduated from MIT with four degrees, all completed in four years, B.S. in Computer Science and Management Science, M.Eng. in Computer Science, and Minors in Economics and Mathematics. In the US, he once worked as a research scientist, researched and implemented statistical arbitrage models for U.S. equities trading and systematic CTA models to trade financial, commodity and currency futures and forwards.

After he moved to Singapore, he co-founded frame.ai, a collaborative intelligence platform to apply smart human-machine collaboration in the servicing of customer requests over chat platforms (e.g. Slack, WhatsApp, FB Messenger).

He is also the founder and CEO of AlphaLab Capital Pte Ltd, where he is leading a team of computer engineers and technologists to build a world-class algorithmic trading platform for digital assets.
